Mason Don Felipe: A London date spot where you cannot lose

Last night, I found the promised land for the dating scene, and it’s Felipe’s house.

If you are single in London, it’s the place of your dreams - somewhere where you can go on dates in the knowledge that it’s a win-win - you are going to have a good time whether or not you feel a connection with the person that you sit opposite.

Mason Don Felipe is the perfect place to feel like you’re on a Barcelona tapas date without the hassle of an awkward flight home if they are not the one.

Located a stone’s throw from Waterloo train station and the Shard within view, this tapas bar is the perfect location for a central London date just South of the river.

When the weather is on your side, you can start your evening basking in the evening sun, sipping on a wine of your choice.

I went for the house white, and my date, the Sangria - both of us ordered one or two more, which is probably a good sign.

But when the sun goes down, that is the signal to head inside to sit intimately on high tables in a timelessly-furnished quintessential Spanish tapas bar, full of energy yet not too loud, allowing the conversation to flow like the wine.

Tapas is about being able to choose multiple options - ideal for those that struggle to decide on their order (like my mother) - and the more than 40 choices will please you, regardless of dietary requirements.

As someone that eats in vast amounts, portion sizes are important - but I am still aware that bigger is not necessarily better.

Fortunately, the dishes came in generous quantities in the highest of quality, served by staff that could not do enough for their customers,

If you want help deciding, you should know that the patatas bravas and tuna croquettes are unmissable.

You may be wondering how a bloke from Birmingham who has only been to Barcelona twice can tell you on authority that Mason Don Felipe in a Barcelona away from the Med.

Helpfully, my date lived in Barcelona for a year, so to say that she knows her way around a tapas bar is an understatement.

My tapas correspondent from over the table delivered the verdict, and it is good news for Felipe and my credibility - “This is a so cute, and the best I’ve seen out of Spain”.

Whether or not you believe Barcelona is Spanish or Catalan, the victory is clear

When the bill comes, the price for a meal and drinks for two will be at least £40 - not a regular expense most of us can make, but if you want to treat yourself, there will be no regrets.

How do I know that there will be no regrets? My mouth is watering and heart singing as I write this review.

And thanks to Waterloo station, you can quickly get anywhere in London to continue the night or return to bed with a satisfied stomach.

Regardless of how well your date goes, you will leave Mason Don Felipe knowing one thing for sure - you will be returning, and it cannot come soon enough.

This is a review article, written for my NCTJ coursework.
